On the Alpine Panorama Trail in Emmental

May 1, 2019 -- We were very lucky this week as Wednesday, our day off, was the only really nice day the whole week.

We went to the Emmental (about 20km East of Bern) and did a truly panoramic hike on the National "Alpine Panorama Trail" (totally lived up to its name). Superb views of the Central and Bernese Alps along the entire 13 km we walked even though the air was somewhat hazy. Perfect walking weather for this one as it was slightly cool. On a summer day, I think this might have been too hot to walk.

Only thing we should have done differently was to walk it in the opposite direction. We chose South to North because that way we had a steeper ascent and a longer descent, which is the way we prefer it, but had we done it the other way around, the best views would have been ahead of us instead of behind....

Emmental-Style house in Grosshöchstetten, the start of our hike. This village is about 20 km from Bern

Church in Grosshöchstetten

View South on our ascent from Grosshöchstetten. These are the Bernese Alps with the most prominent one called Stockhorn

Lovely pastoral landscapes with blossoms and the smell of freshly-mown hay

Emmental-Style farmhouse

A peek to Mount Stockhorn (zoomed view)

Buzzard in foreground, Mounts Mönch and Jungfrau in the back -- they are the most well-known of the Bernese Alps

I love it when the trail goes right past the farmhouses

Another glimpse of Mount Stockhorn

Approaching the village called Blasen. Our trail continues up the hill and into the forest on the right

Pretty Emmental landscape

Heading up to the hill called Blasenflue, another view South to the mountains

The highest point on our hike, Blaseflue. We are walking on Trail no.3: Alpine Panorama Trail

This was a very unique picnic table

From Blaseflue another view of the Bernese Alps with my two favourite peaks: Schrekhorn and Finsteraarhorn (the latter is the highest peak in the Bernese Alps)

And to the Northeast a view over the entire Napf area. On the right is Mount Pilatus near Lucerne.

The Gasthof is currently only open on weekends, so we might come back another time

On the right under the clouds, the famous Trio: Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau

Near the end of our hike which is down in the valley at the back. The large town is Langnau, but we are not going that far.

An easy and pleasant 13-km hike. I did not even have sore feet this time.
