Saturday April 25, 2015 -- I wanted to go to a Flea
Market in a town nearby (Rossau) but the closest public transport there was 3
km to the west or 1½ km to the east. So I decided to take the train to Knonau,
walk the 3 km to Rossau (through woods and pastures) and after the flea market
walk east another 1.5 km to Uerzlikon. This is only 7 km north of where I live
but just across the Canton border in Canton Zurich.
The flea market was taking place at the Güetlihof Farm, an Evangelical Missions House.
To get to Knonau is only about 20 minutes by bus and train, and the trip back home from Uerzlikon takes only about 30 minutes.

Near the train station in Knonau is the Knonau Castle, built in 1525. So I first had a walk around the castle grounds.

The sign shows it's a little over two kilometers to Rossau, directly along the road.
|
In all, this was a short hike of less than 5 km, but the main reason was for visiting the flea market in Rossau. (Note at time of creating this map: In 2015, there was no bus stop in Rossau, that is why I had to walk from either Knonau or Uerzlikon).

Heading east, I cross the railway tracks and go under the Autobahn. The trail heads to the left here, and follows a stream toward the forest.

Approaching the village of Rossau. There is a flea market going on here today, and there are lots of people in attendance!

There is entertainment going on as well!

We don't see a lot of these dogs! It's a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, slightly larger and with a shorter coat than the better-known Bernese Mountain Dog.

After purchasing a leather belt and a silver serving spoon for 1 CHF each, I continued on my walk through the village of Rossau. Lovely old building here.

Up ahead is the village of Uerzlikon, where I can catch a bus back toward home.
