Circular Winter Trail above Adelboden

(This post published on January 14, 2026. No comments, just lots of nice winter photos).

Wednesday January 28, 2015 -- Wednesday is a no-work and excursion day. The first destination we picked (Loetschen Valley) was a bust, as when we got there, the east/west valley was in full shade and not expecting any sunshine for another 3 hours.

So we headed back to the Kander Valley and into the Engstligen Valley to the town of Adelboden, where there was sunshine (although the cloud-cover soon blocked that... what a shame). It was still nice weather for a hike up the hill above the town and a 7.5 km circular walk above the town. There are many such specially prepared trails for winter walking.

Heading up the Kander Valley toward the tunnel to Goppenstein, from where you take a bus into the Kander Valley.

In the Kander Valley heading back northwards toward Frutigen and the Engstligen Valley.

We started on our walk in Adelboden at just after noon.

Winter landscapes are particularly beautiful when the trees are full of snow.

A bit of blue sky and sunshine now.

Looking northwards down the Entschligen Valley

Even though we didn't have as much sunshine as we had hoped, it was still a very nice winter walk, and not very difficult.
